Armed officers swooped on Canterbury this morning after a tense call sparked fears for a woman’s safety. Police were alerted around 11:15am about a concern for a woman at a property on Longport.
A police helicopter hovered overhead, keeping a watchful eye as the drama unfolded below.
Hostage Scare in Monastery Street
The chilling report claimed a woman was being held captive in a building on Monastery Street, right next to the Royal Inn Chinese restaurant. The scene quickly turned serious, prompting an armed response.
Nearby, students at 1 College were ordered to stay put on campus while officers assessed the situation.
Police Update: Woman Safe, No Weapon Found

“Armed officers and a police helicopter attended due to concerns a weapon may be involved.
“Thankfully, a woman was safely located. Officers remain at the scene making enquiries. No weapons have been found at this time.”
No arrests have been made so far.
