Tragedy struck at a block party in Baltimore on Sunday, where a shooting incident claimed the lives of two individuals and left 28 others wounded. The incident occurred shortly after 00.30 in the southern part of the city, with three of the wounded victims in serious condition.
This shooting comes amidst the celebratory gatherings taking place across the country in preparation for the upcoming July Fourth holiday. In a separate incident in Kansas, seven individuals were left with gunshot wounds, while two more were hospitalized after being trampled during a chaotic scene at a nightclub early Sunday morning.
All the victims in the Baltimore shooting were adults, with nine of them transported by ambulance and the remaining 20 making their way to nearby hospitals with gunshot-related injuries. Tragically, an 18-year-old woman was found deceased at the scene, while a 20-year-old man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to police reports.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Mayor Brandon Scott addressed the incident, vowing to apprehend those responsible. He declared, “We will not stop until we find you, and we will find you. Until then, I hope that every single breath you take, that you think about the lives that you took, think about the lives that you impacted here tonight.”
No immediate arrests were made following the shooting, prompting Mayor Scott to urge anyone with information to come forward and assist investigators in locating the “cowards” responsible for the tragic event. Police maintained a presence at the scene for several hours, conducting an extensive evidence-gathering operation within the densely populated two-story housing blocks.
Baltimore, located in close proximity to the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., has long grappled with gun violence issues. However, the police had recently highlighted their success in reducing violence in the city. So far this year, there have been nearly 130 homicides and close to 300 reported shootings, though these figures represent a decrease compared to the same period last year.
