High-speed police chase ends in crash and gas leak in Orpington
Two Arrested After Car Crashes into Property
Two suspects are in custody after a dramatic police chase through Orpington, Kent, ended with a VW Passat smashing into a house on Mountview Road just after 8.15pm on Wednesday.
The collision fractured a gas main, sending a large gas cloud into the area. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as nearby residents were evacuated or told to keep doors and windows shut.
Major Road Closures and Emergency Response
Authorities closed Perry Hall Road and Mountview Road, causing traffic chaos and diversions for route 61. Gas engineers were called in immediately to repair the damage caused by the crash.
Paramedics from London Ambulance Service and fire crews from Orpington Station worked quickly to secure the scene and manage the hazardous gas leak.
Suspects Flee but Caught by Helicopter and Police Dogs
After the crash, the car’s occupants bolted in different directions into nearby woodland. Police deployed dog units and a helicopter to track them down.
Both men were located hiding in the woods and arrested. A Met Taskforce police dog played a key role in their capture.
Investigation Underway
The Met Police have launched an investigation into the chase and crash. A large police presence remains at the scene as enquiries continue.
More updates are expected as the story develops.
