Tragic Discovery in Croydon Road

Emergency services were scrambled just after 2:20am on Sunday, 12 July, after a man was found collapsed on Croydon Road, near Tremaine Road junction. Officers confirmed the man died at the scene.

While awaiting formal ID, police are confident the victim is Dean Edwards, who lived nearby in South Norwood. A post-mortem is scheduled for Thursday, 16 July. Next of kin have been informed.

Gunshot to the Head in Betts Park

Detectives believe Dean was walking through Betts Park when he was shot in the back of the head as he neared the Croydon Road exit. The attack is thought to have taken place between midnight and 1am.

No arrests have been made, but the investigation is moving fast to piece together what happened. Police want to speak to anyone in or around Betts Park late Saturday night or early Sunday morning who saw or heard anything suspicious.

Police Plea for Witnesses

“We are in the early stages of investigating the murder and working hard to piece together what happened,” said Detective Chief Inspector Kate Kieran.

“Dean was shot from behind as he left Betts Park near the junction with Tremaine Road. We urge anyone who was in the area between 12.15am and 1am to come forward – even if the information seems small.”
