Police were called at approximately 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday, 4 December, to reports of an assault at a residential address on Fishponds Road in Tooting.
Upon arrival, officers, accompanied by the London Ambulance Service, found a man in his late 70s suffering from injuries, including knife wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.
A 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing. The area was briefly cordoned off while officers conducted inquiries, but there is no ongoing risk to the public.
Residents in the area expressed shock at the incident. “It’s terrifying to hear something like this happen so close to home, especially involving someone so vulnerable,” one neighbor commented.
