Tragedy in Stalybridge: 80-year-old woman killed in cycling crash
An 80-year-old woman has died after being hit by a cyclist during an organised ride in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester.
Crash on Mottram Road
The collision happened around 12pm on Sunday, 4 May, on Mottram Road in Tameside. The pensioner was walking when she was struck by a male cyclist who was overtaking another rider at the time, say Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
She was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but sadly passed away days later on Wednesday, 8 May, GMP confirmed on Friday.
Cyclist Stays at Scene
The cyclist involved suffered minor injuries and stayed at the scene to assist police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made so far.
The crash occurred during an organised cycling event, though the full details of the ride have not been released. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed.
Police Launch Witness Appeal
“An investigation is ongoing. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to contact us,” said a GMP spokesperson.
