Chaos at Hampshire School as Massive Pine Tree Crashes Down
A giant pine tree has come crashing down across a busy pathway at Fair Oak Cemetery, just yards from Wyvern School in Hampshire. The fallen tree smashed through fencing, sparking safety fears for pupils, staff, and the public.
Area Closed Off Over Safety Fears
Officials have shut down Fair Oak Cemetery and the adjacent footpath near the school amid worries other trees in the area might also be dangerously unstable. The park ranger for Fair Oak and Horton Heath parish council confirmed the closures will remain until safety checks are complete.
“Fair Oak Cemetery and the footpath by Wyvern School are closed until further notice. A large tree has fallen and is being removed. Until we can confirm the safety of the remaining trees, both areas will stay shut. Sorry for any inconvenience,” said the ranger.
Security on High Alert to Protect Bicycles
The school grounds, home to dozens of parked pushbikes, are now guarded by security staff who stayed overnight to prevent theft amid the disruption. Students have been unable to retrieve their bikes due to ongoing safety risks.
A source at Wyvern School told us: “Until the fallen tree is cleared and the rest are inspected, students can’t access their bicycles. Security remains on site to keep everything safe.”
Tennis Courts Also Off Limits
The incident has forced the closure of all Wyvern Tennis Courts, including the grey courts. Engineers will assess the condition of nearby trees before reopening these facilities.
Staff and pupils brace for further disruption as teams work to clear the hazard and keep the school safe.
