Jealous Stalker Threatened Acid Attack After Online Dating Fallout

From Romance to Revenge

Hamzah Shakeel met his victim on a dating app and went on two dates. But when she told him she wanted to keep things strictly friendly, everything turned nasty.

Obsessed and Aggressive

Shakeel bombarded her with over 20 messages a day. His texts quickly became abusive and threatening. When he discovered she had met someone else, he warned he would throw acid in her face – and claimed he knew where she lived.

Toxic Jealousy and Harassment

The 21-year-old from Greenside Walk, Bakersfield, kept sending jealous and sexually explicit messages about her and her family. After being ignored, he created numerous fake Snapchat accounts to spam her with friend requests, desperate for contact.

Mocking Police, Facing Justice

During a police interview in March, Shakeel laughed while being grilled about his vile messages. He admitted the acid threat was meant to “shock and scare” her, blaming anger over her seeing someone else.

Harassing his victim from July 2020 to March 2021, Shakeel was charged with stalking causing serious alarm and distress. On 1 September 2021, Nottingham Crown Court jailed him for two years and 10 months after he pleaded guilty.

Police Warn: Speak Up Against Stalking

Constable Daniel Kicks of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Stalking and harassment are horrible crimes and can leave victims terrified and helpless. We take these incidents extremely seriously and urge anyone going through this to come forward immediately.”

“We welcome the court’s sentence. It should give Shakeel time to reflect on the pain he caused. The victim and her family suffered greatly emotionally – we hope she can now put this nightmare behind her.”

“If you’re in a similar situation, contact the police without delay.”
