Firefighters worked through the early hours of Saturday morning (October 12) to extinguish a blaze in a mid-terraced house converted into flats on Brookhill Road, Woolwich. The fire broke out in a second-floor flat at around 3:53 a.m.
Around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines from Plumstead, Greenwich, East Greenwich, and surrounding areas were dispatched to the scene. Crews fought for 98 minutes to bring the fire under control, with the blaze finally extinguished by 5:22 a.m.
Two people were treated at the scene by ambulance crews, although no further details about their condition were provided.
A 32-metre turntable ladder was used to observe and assist in tackling the flames from above. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a mid-terraced house converted into flats on Brookhill Road in Woolwich. The fire was under control by 5:22 a.m. and the cause of the fire is under investigation.”
