Fire Rips Through Selsfield Drive Flat
Emergency crews were scrambled to a ground-floor flat blaze on Selsfield Drive, Brighton, just after 6.30pm on Friday, March 1. Smoke billowed through multiple floors, sparking a rapid response from fire teams across East and West Sussex.
Massive Firefighting Effort
Firefighters from Preston Circus, Roedean, Hove, and Lewes, supported by West Sussex crews, tackled the ferocious fire using:
- Eight breathing apparatus sets
- Two hose reel jets and one main jet
- Firefighting foam
- Thermal imaging cameras to find hot spots
- Positive Pressure Ventilation fan to clear smoke
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said, “We were called at 6.39pm to reports of a fire at a ground-floor flat on Selsfield Drive, Brighton.
Residents Safe, But Two Injured
All residents were accounted for and evacuated safely. Two individuals received medical attention at the scene before being taken to hospital by South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Sussex Police secured the area ensuring public safety. Meanwhile, local authorities offered support to those affected by the fire.
