Emergency crews from Erith and Bexley fire stations leapt into action after the alert. They had the flames under control in just 11 minutes, dousing the fire by 7:49am and preventing the situation from escalating.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Firefighters battled a blaze at a flat on Empire Way, Erith, early this morning. Part of the ground-floor flat in a semi-detached house was damaged by the fire, but two men and a woman managed to escape unscathed before the arrival of fire crews.”
