Tragic Death of Five-Year-Old Lincoln Shakes South Ockendon

The community of South Ockendon is in mourning after the heartbreaking death of five-year-old Lincoln Button, who was found dead at a home on Windstar Drive. Loved ones have paid tribute to him as a “beautiful young soul who will be missed every day.”

Mother Arrested on Suspicion of Murder

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 3pm on Sunday, 15 December, after concerns were raised about the welfare of a child and a woman. Essex Police confirmed the woman, Lincoln’s mother, was taken to hospital for treatment before being arrested on suspicion of murder. She remains in police custody, with no one else currently being sought in connection with the investigation.

Lincoln’s Family and School Pay Heartfelt Tributes

Lincoln was a Year 1 pupil at Bonnygate Primary School, part of the Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust. His family described him as:

“A cherished, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul who was adored by all and will be sorely missed every day.”

The school echoed this sentiment, calling Lincoln a “cheeky, smiley, happy boy who was loved fondly by our Bonnygate family.” They added:

“His love for school, laughter, and cuddles will be remembered and missed dearly. We are working closely with the authorities and Thurrock Council’s education team to help the community come to terms with this tragic loss.”

Police Appeal for Respect and Restraint

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Blakesley, leading the probe, emphasised the sensitivity of the case:

“This remains an extremely sensitive and complex investigation, which we are carrying out with the care, compassion, and professionalism that Lincoln’s family and the wider public would expect.”

“At the heart of this investigation is the death of a young child, with a family now facing unthinkable pain. I urge the community to refrain from speculating on the circumstances and to give Lincoln’s family the space they need during this difficult time.”

Local authorities are offering support to children, staff, and families affected by this devastating tragedy.
