Fourth man arrested in Romford murder probe

Detectives have made a fourth arrest in the hunt for those behind the brutal murder of a woman in Romford.

New arrest shakes up investigation

A 35-year-old man was detained on Sunday night, 17 August, on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in police custody as the investigation tightens.

This latest arrest joins three others: a 35-year-old man held for murder, and two younger men aged 21 and 22 suspected of aiding offenders. All four suspects remain locked up as officers dig deeper.

Victim named: Zahwa Salah Mukhtar, 27

Police have formally identified the victim as 27-year-old Zahwa Salah Mukhtar. She was fatally assaulted in the early hours of Saturday, 16 August, on Chadwell Heath Lane, Romford.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 5.30am, but tragically Zahwa was pronounced dead there and then.

Her family, supported by specially trained officers, paid a moving tribute:

“Zahwa was a kind and loving person with high aspirations in life. Her presence brought warmth to those around her.

She was dearly loved by family and friends.

Her tragic loss leaves us heartbroken. Zahwa will be truly missed and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.”

Police call for witnesses to come forward

Detective Superintendent Brian Hobbs leading the probe said:

“Our thoughts are with Zahwa’s family and friends during this truly tragic time.

While arrests have been made, residents in Romford will continue to see increased police presence as we carry out thorough investigations.

If anyone was in the Romford area and saw or heard anything suspicious, please get in touch.”

Officers believe the attack was a targeted incident involving people who knew each other.
