British Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Smoke Hits Cabin
A British Airways Airbus A320 en route from Istanbul to London made a dramatic emergency landing in Bucharest after four people suffered smoke inhalation onboard.
Flight BA603, carrying 142 passengers, diverted urgently to Henri Coanda International Airport at 5:50 pm local time amid reports of smoke in the cabin.
Smoke Forces Rapid Response and Medical Treatment
The plane touched down safely at 6:14 pm. Emergency medical teams rushed onboard to treat four unwell individuals, believed to be crew members. The rest of the passengers were quickly evacuated to safety.
Romania’s Ministry of Health confirmed the incident. “Smoke was detected immediately after landing. The crew reported smoke emissions onboard, triggering the emergency landing,” they said.
They added, “Four people are in poor condition, likely due to smoke intoxication, and are receiving medical care on site.”
BA Issues Apology and Cooperates with Investigation
British Airways has apologised for the disruption, listing the flight as diverted on its website.
“Our crew decided to divert as a precaution after a suspected technical issue. The aircraft landed safely, and customers disembarked normally. We’re sorry for the disruption and working to get passengers on their way,” said a BA spokesperson.
Bucharest airport officials have launched a full investigation to find the cause of the smoke and ensure safety standards were not breached.
