Gas Blast Rocks Wandsworth Flats, Up to Three Hurt
Chaos erupted early Tuesday morning in Wandsworth after a suspected gas explosion tore through a block of flats on Garratt Lane, SW17.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
At around 7.25am on 31 July, police, firefighters, and paramedics swarmed the location following urgent reports of an explosion. They found a damaged wall and up to three people injured.
Crews are still working hard to help those hurt, with their condition yet to be confirmed.
Area Locked Down, Public Warned
A police cordon is in place. Drivers are urged to steer clear of Garratt Lane as investigation and emergency work continue.
Official Response Underway
“At this stage we believe up to three people have been injured as a result of what is believed to be a gas explosion,” said Sergeant John Nicolaou from South West BCU. “We await a full update on their condition. The Health and Safety Executive will be informed in due course and the Gas Board are at the scene now. All emergency services continue to work together at the scene along with the local authority.”
No arrests have been made as the incident remains under investigation.
