Bonfire or Blaze? Ryde Firefighters Rushed to Fake House Fire

Firefighters from Ryde scrambled to what they thought was a house fire – but it turned out to be just a bonfire. Two crews were sent to Lind Street shortly after 9.20pm tonight. Luckily, no action was needed from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Mistaken Alarm From Travelodge Guest

A guest at the nearby Travelodge spotted thick smoke and called emergency services, fearing a house was ablaze. Thick plumes were clearly visible from Church Lane and West Street, sparking the alert.

Second Callout for Chimney Fire

The Ryde crews had no time to rest. A homeowner on Ryde Esplanade reported a chimney fire. One crew rushed over and found the blaze was already out. They’re now using thermal imaging to keep an eye on hot spots.

“Crews remain at the scene using a thermal image camera to monitor the situation,” said a fire service spokesman.
