Isle of Wight MP Warns: Future Terror Attacks ‘Inevitable’ After Brussels Horror

The Isle of Wight’s MP has issued a stark warning following the deadly terrorist bombings in Brussels that left at least 34 people dead and scores more injured. Yesterday’s attacks involved three explosions—two at Brussels airport and one on the Metro near EU Parliament buildings. The militants behind the carnage have been linked to Daesh, also known as Islamic State, with chilling threats of ‘harder and more bitter’ attacks to come.

Brussels Bombers Known to Police

The suicide bombers have been identified as Belgian brothers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui. A third suspect, Najim Laachraoui—who had posed as a migrant—is still on the run. All were already on police radar before the attacks.

Belgium had been on high alert after the arrest last weekend of Saleh Abdeslam, thought to be involved in the November Paris attacks that killed 130 and wounded nearly 400.

Migrant Crisis a Cover for Terrorists?

Daesh claims jihadists are exploiting Europe’s migrant crisis to slip across borders undetected. Last month, Rob Wainwright, head of Europol, said up to 5,000 extremists could now be roaming Europe after jihadist training, though he downplayed the idea that migrants were the main pathway.

MP Issues Grim Prediction for UK Security

“There were heart-breaking scenes in Brussels yesterday, as there were in Paris four months ago,” said Andrew Turner. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the victims’ families and friends. These attacks, right in the heart of the EU, were expected—yet the attackers were already known to authorities.

“I fear future attacks, including in the UK, are inevitable. These brutal terrorists twist Islam, a peaceful faith, to push their brutal agenda for an Islamic caliphate.

“Our intelligence services are some of the best in the world, but the migrant crisis makes their job harder. It’s no surprise Schengen is faltering as Europe grapples with fear. Whether the threat is home-grown or foreign, these evil people must be stopped. We cannot let terrorists win by attacking our values, way of life, and open societies.”
