Operation Sceptre Cracks Down on Knife Crime in Kent

From Monday 15 November to Sunday 21 November 2021, Operation Sceptre is launching a fierce crackdown to hunt down knife carriers across Kent. Police and partners will hit the streets hard, targeting parks, town centres, and railway stations to recover weapons and keep the county safe.

Officers Patrol Public Hotspots and Schools

Kent Police officers will be out in force alongside the British Transport Police and local authorities. They will patrol high-traffic areas and visit schools, driving home the dangers of carrying knives to young people. This education push aims to tackle the root causes of knife crime and prevent violence before it starts.

Retailers Warned on Knife Sales Laws

Joint operations with Kent Trading Standards will also crack down on retailers to ensure they comply with the law. The recent Offensive Weapons Act 2019 makes it illegal to possess certain weapons, even in private. Anyone caught carrying a knife faces serious consequences.

Police Send a Clear Warning to Offenders

Kent Police works to keep communities safe every day,” said Detective Superintendent Shaun White. “This week’s operation aims to drive down knife-related violence and make it clear that knife crime will not be tolerated in Kent. Offenders will be caught and brought to justice.”

“Knife crime is relatively low in Kent compared to other parts of the UK, but carrying a knife puts you at higher risk of being a victim, and leads to a criminal record and tough punishments if caught.”
