Taxi Driver Killed in Early Morning Hit-and-Run in Orsett

Tragedy struck on the A128 Brentwood Road at its junction with the B188 in Orsett just after 4am on Monday, 5 October. A red Peugeot 308 taxi and a black BMW X5 crashed in a shocking collision.

The taxi driver, a 65-year-old man from Grays, died instantly at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the taxi.

BMW Driver Flees Scene, Car Abandoned

The driver of the black BMW X5 fled before emergency services arrived, leaving the vehicle behind. The road remained closed until around 12:30pm for forensic investigations.

Police Hunt For Hit-and-Run Driver and Witnesses

Essex Police are urgently searching for the BMW driver and anyone else who may have been inside the vehicle. Officers are keen to speak with anyone who:

  • Witnessed the collision
  • Saw anyone leaving the scene
  • Spotted a black BMW X5 in the area before the crash
  • Noticed anyone on foot or being picked up near Conways Road around the time
