A man is battling for his life in hospital after being stabbed during a brawl in Orpington.
The altercation, involving two men, erupted in Star Lane just before 4:20 am today (February 26).
Police rushed to the scene and discovered one of the men with stab wounds to his chest.
He received immediate treatment at the scene before being transported to the hospital in a critical condition.
However, investigators believe that the injuries were self-inflicted.
As officers from the Met Police delve into the incident, Star Lane has been partially cordoned off to traffic.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: “At approximately 04:16hrs on Monday, 26 February, police were called to Star Lane, Orpington, BR5 to reports of two men fighting.
“When officers arrived, one man was lying on the ground with stab injuries to his chest.
“These are believed to be self-inflicted.
“He was treated at the scene and has since been taken to the hospital as his injuries are thought to be life-threatening.
“The road has been partially closed off so an investigation can take place.
“There are no arrests at this time.”
The circumstances surrounding the altercation are under scrutiny as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the stabbing.
