Arson Spree Rocks Chippenham: Car, Bin Store, and School Bus Torched in One Night
Early Morning Blaze Chaos
Chippenham was rattled in the early hours of 18 October as arsonists struck three times. It began just after 1.30am on Chelwood Close, where a black Honda Civic was set ablaze and completely destroyed.
Bin Store and Bus Targeted Next
Less than an hour later, around 2.10am, a bin store at Rudman Park flats was set on fire. The attacks didn’t stop there. CCTV footage revealed a school bus parked at the Olympiad leisure centre on Sadlers Mead was also torched, leaving the vehicle wrecked and nearby building damaged.
Police Hunt Arsonists
All three fires are believed to be linked. Sergeant Jansen Carter thanked firefighters for quickly controlling the flames and revealed no injuries were reported.
“These senseless acts of criminal damage will have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage including destroying a school bus,” Carter said.
Officers are ramping up their investigation and urge anyone with information to call 101 quoting crime reference number 54200104692.
“I want to reassure our communities we will be putting as much resource into this as we can to locate those responsible.”
