Murder Investigation Launched After Woman Dies and Toddler Injured in Ashford

A murder investigation is underway after a woman in her 20s was found dead and a two-year-old girl was seriously injured in Ashford, Surrey. The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, January 16, at an address on Woodthorpe Road.

Police were called at 1:15pm following reports of safety concerns at the location. Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman and child with severe injuries. Despite efforts from paramedics and police, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The toddler was rushed to hospital, where she is currently being treated for her injuries.

Arrest Made

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Police have confirmed that the suspect and the victims were known to each other. Authorities have also assured the public that there is no wider risk to the community.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said:

A murder investigation has been launched after the death of a woman in Ashford on Thursday, January 16. Officers were called to an address on Woodthorpe Road at 1:15pm following a report of a concern for safety.

A woman in her 20s and a two-year-old girl were found at the address with very serious injuries. Sadly, despite the best efforts of officers and paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The child has been taken to hospital for treatment.

“A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The victims and the suspect were known to each other. There is not believed to be any wider risk to the community. An investigation, led by the Surrey and Sussex Police Major Crime Team, is underway and enquiries remain ongoing.
