Brave Off-Duty Cop Attacked After Standing Up to Racist Abuse in Nottingham Bar
Nottingham police have launched a hunt for a man caught on CCTV after an off-duty officer was brutally assaulted for intervening in a racist rant at a city centre bar.
Sergeant Stands Up to Racist Abuse, Ends Up Attacked
The drama unfolded on King Street at around 8:10pm on Saturday, 7 October. A Leicestershire sergeant, enjoying a night out with mates, overheard a man hurling racial slurs at another customer. The officer stepped in to confront the suspect, who instantly tried to land a punch.
The scuffle quickly escalated outside into a nasty group attack. Four men targeted the off-duty officer in a vicious assault. Thankfully, the injuries were not serious, but Nottinghamshire Police have condemned the violence and vowed to track down those responsible.
Police Release Image, Urge Witnesses to Speak Up
Officers have now swooped on CCTV footage and released an image of a key suspect they want to interview. PC Koen Broers praised the officer’s courage and urged anyone who recognises the man, or the man himself, to come forward.
“If you know the man in the picture or you are the man in the picture, please get in touch. Call 101 and quote incident number 23000624438. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111,”
