Knife-Wielding Burglar Strikes Twice in Nottingham
Police are hunting a knife-wielding thug believed to be behind two terrifying burglaries in Hyson Green and Sherwood this week.
Cleaver-Wielding Attacker Demands Cash and Jewellery
On Monday night, around 8.20pm, a man forced his way into a home on St Paul’s Terrace, Hyson Green. Armed with a meat cleaver, he threatened a woman and demanded cash and jewellery. The victim handed over her phone and earrings before the attacker dragged her upstairs, demanding more valuables. He abused her, leaving bruises on her arms.
The suspect is described as a slim Asian man in his early 30s, about 6ft tall. He wore all black, including a woolly hat or cap, white trainers, and a surgical face mask. He spoke Punjabi throughout the ordeal.
Second Raid in Sherwood Linked
Two days later, at 7pm on Wednesday, a similar robbery unfolded in The Close, Sherwood. A man entered a home through an unlocked door, demanding money and jewellery from a woman. She handed over her phone—a device containing bank cards—plus earrings and cash.
This suspect was also a tall, skinny Asian man, this time speaking Urdu. He wore a face mask and had a black beard and hair. The victim’s phone was found abandoned in nearby Woodthorpe Avenue about an hour later.
Police Appeal for Dash-Cam Footage and Witnesses
“These were extremely upsetting incidents for the victims,” said Detective Inspector Kayne Rukas of Nottinghamshire Police. “Incidents like this are thankfully very rare, but anyone with concerns should speak to an officer.”
DI Rukas added, “While it’s early days, we believe the two incidents are connected. Both happened on busy residential streets, so if anyone saw anything or captured footage on dash-cams, please get in touch.”
Anyone with information should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 692 of January 23, 2023 or incident 627 of January 25, 2023.
