London Cops Crack Down on Illegal Rave Scene
Police are out in force across London tonight, Sunday 28 June, shutting down unlicensed music events (UMEs) that are putting communities at risk. These illegal raves aren’t just noisy nuisances—they’re hotbeds for violence and anti-social behaviour.
Raves Risk Lives and Spread Covid
Social distancing goes out the window at these gatherings, raising the stakes for Covid-19 transmission. Officers busted several events on Saturday night, dispersing hundreds of revellers—mostly without a fuss.
Hotspots: Clapham, Tooting, Burgess Park & Wembley
UMEs popped up around Clapham Common, Tooting Bec Common, Burgess Park, and Wembley. Police nipped music setups in the bud, stopping large crowds from forming in several locations.
Commander Issues Stark Warning
“There are teams of officers dedicated to tackling unlicensed music events on duty tonight,” said Commander Bas Javid of Frontline Policing. “These events are illegal, they’re linked to violence, and groups who hold them are breaching health regulations.”
“People attending put themselves and their communities at serious risk. I urge anyone thinking of going to rethink their plans.”
Police will arrest suspects caught breaking the law and thanked the public for reporting these illegal parties. To report UMEs, dial 101, tweet @MetCC, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
