Glastonbury Festival 2022: Police Gear Up for Major Security Operation

Police are pulling out all the stops for Glastonbury Festival 2022. Working closely with organisers and local authorities, they’ve planned a full-on neighbourhood-style policing blitz. The mission: keep festival-goers and locals safe throughout the event.

Mounted Cops and Bike Patrols on the Beat

Expect to see uniformed officers everywhere – on foot, horseback, and bikes – regularly patrolling the site. Officers will be easy to spot and are urged to chat with festival-goers. Plus, they’ll be handing out thousands of handy mobile phone pouches to keep your tech safe.

Stay Sharp: Top Safety Tips for Festival Fans

  • Arrive Early – Beat the queues and help security do their job swiftly.
  • Be Patient – Security checks may seem slow, but they’re there to protect you.
  • Pack Light & No Nonsense – Follow the official Glastonbury packing list. Banned items include lasers, fireworks, and drones.
  • Watch Your Drink – If you suspect it’s been spiked, alert security or police immediately and seek medical help by calling NHS 111 or visiting on-site medical staff.
  • Report Suspicious Behaviour – Don’t keep it to yourself. Notify police or security straight away.
  • Don’t Leave Bags Unattended – Leaving bags lying around can cause panic. Never accept responsibility for others’ bags.
  • In an Emergency – Dial 999 and seek out staff with radios who can call for backup.
  • Follow Announcements – Listen carefully if there’s an incident. Emergency plans are in place to keep everyone safe.
  • Remember ‘Run, Hide, Tell’ – Terrorist threats are low but stay alert.

Extra Security: Project Servator and Community Policing

Project Servator teams will operate on and around the festival grounds to boost security further. Despite no intelligence suggesting specific threats this summer, police are backing the Counter Terrorism Policing #BeSafeBeSound campaign again, as they did in 2019.

Festival policing extends beyond the site. Representatives will be at Pilton Village Hall throughout to chat with locals and ease concerns. Officers will also patrol all access routes to keep travel safe and minimise disruption for residents.

Know Where to Turn

  • Dial 999 in emergencies or if a crime is underway.
  • Use 101 or the special online Glastonbury crime report form for non-emergencies.
