Tragic Collapse Outside Select Supermarket
A man collapsed in the street outside the Select supermarket on London Road, Croydon, early Saturday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save him.
Paramedics and Police Responded Quickly
The Met Police and London Ambulance Service arrived around 11.35am after reports of the man down in the street. Despite frantic efforts by paramedics and doctors, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Road Closure and Heavy Emergency Presence
St James’ Road was shut at midday as police set up a cordon. Witnesses reported seeing four police cars, two ambulances, and two ambulance cars attending the incident.
Death Treated as Unexplained
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 11.35am on Saturday, May 9 to reports of a man collapsed in London Road. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended but the man – no further details – was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being treated as unexplained.”
Investigations are ongoing as police work to determine the cause of death.
