Lane Closed on A3 After Vehicle Blaze
A section of the A3 between Liphook (B2131) and the A325 southbound remains shut tonight after a car went up in flames.
Firefighters Race to Scene
Hampshire Fire and Rescue crews were called just after 10:15pm to tackle the blaze. Firefighters used a high pressure hose reel to douse the flames and bring the fire under control.
Road Surface Sizzled, One Lane Closed
The intense heat damaged the road, forcing police to cone off one lane. Highways teams have dispatched contractors to repair the scorched tarmac and a recovery truck is on its way to clear the burnt-out vehicle.
Driver Escapes Unharmed
The driver is believed to have made a clean getaway with no injuries after noticing smoke pouring from the heating vents.
