Royal Mail Unveils Record 33,000 Temp Jobs This Christmas
Royal Mail is on a hiring spree! This festive season, they plan to recruit a massive 33,000 temporary workers – smashing previous records. That’s nearly two-thirds more than the usual 15,000 to 23,000 temps they add during Christmas.
Where Are the Jobs and Why the Spike?
- Over 13,000 roles are up for grabs in mail centre sorting offices across England.
- The rest are spread throughout the UK, mainly in sorting and delivery roles.
- These temps will join the existing 115,000 permanent postal staff.
- About 1,000 new hires will support Royal Mail’s Covid-19 testing kit collection service.
Royal Mail says the surge comes amid changing shopping habits and tougher Covid restrictions, boosting parcel volumes.
Royal Mail Pledges to Deliver Through the Pandemic
“During these unprecedented times, we believe it is critical that Royal Mail continues to deliver,” a spokesperson said. “We want to do our best to deliver Christmas for our customers and support the effort on the pandemic. This helps the whole country to celebrate and stay safe during these difficult times.”
New Parcel Service and How to Apply
The announcement follows Royal Mail’s launch of a new 72p parcel collection service aimed at cashing in on the online shopping boom.
