Cops Crack Down on Crime in Maidstone’s Rural Heartland
In a two-day blitz across Headcorn, Marden, and Staplehurst, cops teamed up with Kent Police’s Rural Task Force and Maidstone Borough Council’s Waste Crime unit to tackle crime head-on. The crackdown on June 29 and July 6 saw key moves against rogue traders and illegal waste dumpers in the southern outskirts of Maidstone.
Nine Arrested, Dangerous Driving Sparks Chase
Police arrested nine suspects on drug supply charges during the operation. One dramatic moment came when a van failed to stop at Wierton Hill, triggering a pursuit. A 27-year-old local man was cuffed on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving under the influence, and failing to stop for officers.
Unroadworthy Vehicles Seized, £300 Fine Issued
- An untaxed Ford flat-bed truck and an uninsured VW Golf were confiscated from Maidstone Road, Headcorn during targeted road checks.
- Council enforcement slapped a £300 fine on a driver caught transporting waste without a valid licence.
Police Warn Criminals: Maidstone’s Watchful Eyes Are Everywhere
“These two days of action are continuing our efforts to protect rural residents and businesses from those criminals intent on targeting them,” said Inspector Steve Kent of the Maidstone Community Safety Unit.
He added that locals welcomed the extra patrols and urged troublemakers to think twice. “Our officers and partners will keep patrolling different roads at various times all summer,” he warned.
