Gas Explosion Rocks Portsmouth Home, Leaves Devastation in Its Wake
Emergency crews rushed to Whale Island Way in Portsmouth this afternoon after a gas explosion tore through a property, sending smoke billowing into the sky. The blast caused a fire that quickly spread to a neighbouring house, leaving both terraced homes badly damaged.
Firefighters Battle Blaze Across Multiple Locations
Firefighters from Southsea, Cosham, Havant, Fareham, Portchester, and Eastleigh joined forces to tackle the inferno. Hampshire Police evacuated all residents from the affected terraced houses to keep them safe.
We have a number of crews from across Portsmouth on scene at a property fire on Whale Island Way. Please avoid the area to allow access for emergency services vehicles,” Hampshire Fire and Rescue urged.
Injuries Reported but No Life-Threatening Wounds
Three people suffered injuries in the incident, but thankfully none were serious, Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed. South Central Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Response Team was also on site to assist.
Structural Safety Under Review After Blast
Structural engineers have been called in to assess the damage to the exploded property and neighbouring homes, as the blast compromised their walls. Authorities warn locals to steer clear while investigations continue.
