Chaos at Church Funeral: Three Women and Girl Shot in NW1
Shock rocked Phoenix Road, NW1, at 1:30pm on Saturday, 14 January, when police rushed to a shooting reported during a church funeral service.
Three Women and a Young Girl Injured
Responding swiftly, officers teamed up with London’s Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance crews. Three women aged 41, 48, and 54 were rushed to a central London hospital. Their injuries aren’t life-threatening, but the 48-year-old faces potentially life-changing harm.
By 2:05pm, police confirmed a seven-year-old girl had also been taken to hospital with injuries believed linked to the same shooting incident. Her condition remains unconfirmed as police continue investigations.
Gunfire at Mourning: Funeral for Mother and Daughter Interrupted
The shooting took place near a church where mourners gathered to pay respects to Fresia Calderon, 50, and her daughter, Sara Sanchez, 20, who tragically died just a month apart.
- Fresia died suddenly after collapsing upon arrival at Heathrow from Colombia on November 5. Doctors later attributed her death to a pulmonary embolism.
- Sara, diagnosed with leukaemia at 17, passed away 25 days later.
A family source revealed Sara ‘gave up all hope’ after her mother’s death.
Shots Fired from Moving Car, No Arrests Yet
Initial investigations suggest the gunshots came from a moving vehicle that sped off immediately after. Police have launched an urgent inquiry amid a heavy presence in Camden, but no arrests have been made.
London Ambulance Service spokesperson: “We were called at 1:28pm to reports of a shooting in Phoenix Road, Camden. We sent multiple ambulance crews and medics, including London’s Air Ambulance. The first paramedic arrived within five minutes. Four people were treated on scene; one seriously injured was taken to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
