Toys R Us Set for Big Comeback with 37 New UK Stores by Christmas 2024
Toys R Us is back with a bang! The iconic toy giant, which collapsed in 2018 wiping out 2,000 jobs and shutting 100 stores, is making a major comeback. Just in time for Christmas 2024, it’s launching 37 new stores across the UK.
Relaunch Partnership with WHSmith
Since its October 2022 relaunch, Toys R Us has teamed up with WHSmith to open new locations inside their stores. Shoppers can expect fresh Toys R Us outlets popping up every week from late September right through to Christmas.
Stores Already Open and More on the Way
The revival is already underway with stores live in towns like Bath, Cardiff, Plymouth, and Southampton. More are set to follow, restoring Toys R Us’ high street presence across the country.

WHSmith Exec Buzzes About Expansion
“Nearly 40 years ago, Toys R Us first came to the UK, and we take great pride in being the steward of this much-loved brand,” said Sean Toal, Managing Director of WHSmith High Street. “We’ve had queues around the block for many openings in the last year, which tells you just how much people are loving seeing Toys R Us back again.
“Our job isn’t done yet. I’m thrilled to bring the magic of Toys R Us to even more customers over the coming months, ready for the best time of year – Christmas!”
Top Toys and Mascot Make a Return
Michelle Phillips, Toys R Us and WHSmith toys and games buying manager, revealed hot sellers this season, including the ever-popular Squishmallows and a new family game from social media stars Ladbaby. And for the nostalgic, Geoffrey the Giraffe — the brand’s famous mascot — will be available in limited quantities at each store.
With Toys R Us back in business, Christmas toy shopping just got a whole lot more exciting for British shoppers.
