Chaos at Birmingham Sainsbury’s: Seven Treated After Respiratory Scare

Drama unfolded at Sainsbury’s in Longbridge, Birmingham, this morning as seven people needed urgent medical checks after suffering respiratory problems.

Emergency Services Rush to Scene

West Midlands Ambulance Service scrambled multiple teams at 9.53am, including two ambulances, Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) paramedics, and three paramedic officers. The West Midlands CARE Team, along with police and fire crews, also joined the rapid response.

Mass Evacuation and Medical Response

The supermarket and surrounding buildings were swiftly evacuated after shoppers and staff reported breathing difficulties. Two women were treated on-site before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further checks. Five others were assessed but discharged immediately.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “This was a well-managed tri-service response which, together with the help from retail staff, saw the safe and speedy evacuation of a large number of people. Investigations into the cause of the incident continue.”

Others Safe but Shaken

Several more people, described as “worried but well,” were given advice by paramedics at the scene. Authorities are currently probing what sparked the unsettling incident.
