Massive Hotel Blaze Erupts in Midhurst – Dozens Evacuated
Early Morning Inferno on North Street
Emergency crews rushed to a raging fire at a Midhurst hotel just after 1am on Thursday, 16 March. The joint fire control centre dispatched a massive fleet – 15 fire engines, two aerial ladders, water carriers, an off-road vehicle, and a high-volume pump – to battle the flames.
Roof Blaze Spreads to Nearby Homes
Firefighters faced a fierce blaze in the hotel’s roof space that quickly leapt to neighbouring properties. The fire is still fierce, and crews expect to be at the scene for hours fighting to bring it under control.
Over 30 People Evacuated, Relief Centre Opened
Thankfully, more than 30 guests and residents were safely evacuated. A relief centre is now open in Midhurst to support those displaced by the fire.
Local Warnings and Road Closures
- Residents have been urged to keep windows and doors closed due to thick smoke.

Support is being provided by Surrey Fire & Rescue, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue, Sussex Police, and South East Coast Ambulance Service.
