Brighton Man Jailed for Brutal Club Attack on Two Women
A 21-year-old Brighton man has been locked up for viciously stamping on a woman’s head and sexually assaulting another in a shocking nightclub attack on West Street.
Halcyon Platt’s Violent Rampage
Halcyon Platt, from Ditchling Rise, was sentenced on July 12 after shocking incidents in the early hours of October 1, 2023. While at a West Street nightclub, Platt made unwanted advances towards a 20-year-old woman. When confronted, he sexually assaulted her and grabbed her throat.
The first victim immediately phoned the police. While she was on the line, Platt turned on a second woman, aged 23, who had tried to help a man nearby. He pushed her away, assaulted her, and brutally stamped on her head multiple times, causing significant facial injuries.
Swift Police Action and Court Outcome
Police arrested Platt at the scene and later bailed him with strict conditions. Charged on March 27 with attempted grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, and intentional strangulation, he pleaded guilty on May 23 to the first two charges. The strangulation charge was laid on file.
At Lewes Crown Court on July 12, Platt was sentenced to 45 months in prison and fined £228.
Victims Reveal Lasting Trauma
The victims shared heart-wrenching statements in court about how Platt’s violent acts shattered their lives.
“This incident has definitely impacted my anxiety. I can’t go out anymore without worrying about what will happen to me. I haven’t been able to go to a pub or club since. The last time I tried, I had a severe anxiety attack and had to go home. I even had to quit my charity job because talking to strangers, especially men, terrifies me now.” – 20-year-old victim
“For a week I was scared to fall asleep, worrying I might not wake up from my head injury. I became very anxious and isolated myself, afraid people would see my face. I felt terrible about how I looked.” – 23-year-old victim
