Emergency services rush to Hayling Island mud rescue drama

Emergency crews scrambled to Wilson Boat Yard on Marine Walk, Hayling Island, this evening after reports of people trapped in mud. Seven fire crews, Police Coastguard Mud Rescue Teams, and paramedics arrived at the scene from 6.15pm on Wednesday.

Scene chaos as rescue teams flood boat yard

The area is swarming with emergency vehicles and has been sealed off. Police have blocked access to the boat yard, turning the normally quiet spot into a tense rescue zone.

One rescued, another still trapped

Coastguard and fire services successfully pulled one person from the mud after they became stuck. Meanwhile, a second individual remains trapped on a boat, which is also bogged down in the mud.

Specialist water rescue unit joins effort

Support teams from Portsmouth and Selsey Coastguard Search and Rescue teams have joined the Hayling Island crew. The specialist water rescue unit based at Fareham has also been called in to tackle the tricky mud rescue operation.
