Marlborough man locked up for six and a half years for 2014 rape

Robert Miles, 37, of Rabley Wood View, Marlborough, has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison at Swindon Crown Court today (Monday). This follows a jury finding him guilty last month of a brutal assault committed nearly a decade ago.

Terrifying attack took place in a private home

The horrific assault happened in 2014 inside a private house. It took the victim five long years to summon the courage to report what happened. The ordeal has left deep scars.

In a powerful victim impact statement, she said: “I have, at all times, low self-esteem. I feel my quality of life has been greatly impacted in many ways by what Robert has done to me.”

Detective praises victim’s bravery amid pandemic delays

Detective Constable Clare Sylvester-Wyness said: “It’s been a long and gruelling time for the victim. The trial was delayed four times because of Covid and barrister strikes. I want to thank her for her bravery and courage in seeking justice.”

She added: “We urge anyone who has suffered sexual assault to come forward — even if it happened years ago. We understand it’s hard. You might be unsure what happened or how to talk about it. But our trained officers and partner organisations are here to listen and support you.”

“Your information can help us catch offenders and keep you and others safe.”

Get help confidentially — even if you’re not ready to report

If you’re a victim, you don’t have to face this alone or rush to report to police. Local Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) offer confidential medical care and advice. They can collect evidence for you if you decide to report later — and won’t contact police without your permission.
