Brixham’s Boil Water Crisis: South West Water Holds Urgent Community Meet-Ups

South West Water is hitting the streets of Brixham this week with drop-in sessions for locals hit hard by the recent cryptosporidium scare. These face-to-face events offer residents a chance to grill the water bosses and get straight answers.

Boil Water Notice Hits Thousands

After cryptosporidium was found in Brixham’s water supply last week, some 16,500 homes and businesses were slapped with a boil water notice. Residents were told to boil and cool water before drinking. The good news? On May 18, the notice was lifted for around 14,000 properties in the Alston supply area following clean water tests.

But trouble isn’t over yet. About 2,500 properties in Hillhead, upper Brixham, and Kingswear remain under the boil water alert.

Drop-In Sessions to Calm Fears and Offer Support

To ease worries and explain ongoing fixes, South West Water is hosting sessions at Scala Hall in Brixham. Water experts will discuss water quality, network updates, compensation claims, and support options. Local public health groups will also be on hand.

Laura Flowerdew, South West Water’s Chief Customer and Digital Officer, said: “I am very sorry for the impact we have had on our customers in the area. We want to meet with customers face-to-face to provide reassurance and support.”
