Shock theft at Meltham Fire Station has left the community reeling. Between April 19 and 21, burglars broke in and stole crucial life-saving gear worth a whopping £21,000 from a fire engine.
Firefighters’ Vital Kit Stolen in Break-In
The raid took place at the retained fire station on Holmfirth Road, Meltham, sometime between 3pm Tuesday and 7.30am Wednesday. Thieves targeted lockers on the fire appliance, making off with essential rescue tools.
Equipment Used to Save Lives Taken
The stolen equipment includes cutters used to free people trapped in crashes. Also stolen was a thermal imaging camera, a key tool for spotting victims in smoke or darkness.
Fire Service Pleads for Help to Catch Thieves
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton of West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service appealed for public assistance. He tweeted, “Please help us to find the people who have stolen this vital life-saving equipment.”
