Who Was Carmel? A Teen Caught in a Deadly Spiral

Carmel was a lively 16-year-old from South London’s tough North Peckham Estate. She was fun, feisty, and fiercely loyal to her family and mates. Streetwise and independent, she was moved by her family to Crawley, hoping to escape the grip of drug dealers who exploited her. But tragedy struck when she was sucked back into a violent world of drugs and crime in South London.

The Dark Reality: Exploitation and County Lines

Back in the 1990s, nobody fully understood the dangers lurking behind Carmel’s story. Today, we know it as Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and County Lines drug trafficking—a nightmare that trapped vulnerable kids like Carmel in controlling, dangerous situations.

Missing for 25 Years: The Untold Story

On May 21, 1998, Carmel was last seen leaving Camberwell Magistrates Court. After that, the trail went cold. Despite the passing years, her family’s desperate plea for answers remains unanswered. “Someone must have seen Carmel after she went missing,” a family friend says.

“I ask people to think of their loved ones and imagine the pain of not knowing what happened to them.”
