Liverpool Stabbing Horror: Ava White Murder Conviction Delivered

Tragedy struck Liverpool city centre on November 25, 2021, when 14-year-old Ava White was fatally stabbed in the neck just moments after the Christmas lights switch-on. The deadly attack happened on School Lane near the Royal Court Theatre around 8.40pm.

Ava was out with friends when a group of boys approached them. After one of the teens recorded Ava’s group and shared the footage on Snapchat, a heated verbal confrontation erupted. Ava asked the boy to stop filming and delete the video — but moments later, she was stabbed.

Despite making it to nearby Church Alley seeking help, Ava collapsed. Police arrived promptly to find a witness giving first aid. Officers continued emergency aid until paramedics took her to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Sadly, Ava died despite their efforts.

Killer Caught and Jailed

Three days after the attack, November 28, police arrested the 14-year-old suspect. On May 24 this year, a jury found her guilty of Ava’s murder. Today, Liverpool Crown Court sentenced the killer to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years.

The knife was ordered destroyed, and the offender must also pay a victim surcharge.

Ava’s Family Mourns, City Unites Against Knife Crime

“The moment Ava died is now, yesterday, tomorrow, and forever,” said Ava’s heartbroken mum, Leanne White. “Last November, the light in my life was extinguished for good.”

Leanne spoke movingly about Ava’s excitement for Christmas and how she was allowed a late night out – a night she never returned from. “I’ll never hear her laugh again, or hold her in my arms,” she added.

Detective Chief Inspector Judith Blease expressed sympathy for Ava’s family — mum Leanne, dad Robert Martin, and sister Mia — who remain shattered by their loss. She praised police, family liaison officers, friends, and the community who rallied in support.

Detective Superintendent Sue Coombs said, “While today’s conviction brings justice, nothing will bring Ava back.” She thanked first responders and the public for their swift action to save Ava and for helping secure the conviction after a tireless investigation.

The tragedy has sparked Liverpool’s fierce stand against knife crime — a message the city continues to champion in Ava’s memory.
