Traffic Cop Seriously Injured After Being Run Over by Suspected Car Thief in Birmingham
A West Midlands police officer is in a serious condition after being run down by a suspected car thief today in Birmingham.
Chase Ends in Shocking Attack
The drama unfolded at 4.45pm on Moorcroft Road, Moseley. The traffic cop had just tracked down a suspected stolen Range Rover Sport, snatched minutes earlier from a woman out shopping. As he moved in to make the arrest, the suspect launched a savage attack, punching the officer to the ground before jumping into the patrol car.
Suspect Steals Police Car – Sparks Manhunt
The criminal then drove the marked police vehicle for about a mile along Ladypool Road, Sparkbrook, before crashing it and attempting to hijack another car. Backup swiftly arrived, including armed officers, cornering the suspect. He was eventually Tasered and arrested.
Man Held on Suspicion of Attempted Murder
The suspect currently refuses to give any personal details and is held on suspicion of attempted murder.
Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Boycott said: “This is a shocking attack in which a member of our police has been seriously hurt while trying to detain a crime suspect.
“I’m heading to the hospital now to get an update on his condition and offer whatever support I can to him and his family.
“Attacks on our officers and staff won’t be tolerated and we will always seek the toughest possible criminal justice outcome for offenders.”
