A shocking video has emerged showing a firework exploding on the upper deck of a bus in Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, yesterday afternoon at 3.15pm. The clip, captured on Snapchat by fellow pupils, shows the firework being lit and then hurled toward the front of the bus before it bursts, filling the vehicle with smoke.
12-Year-Old Arrested Over Bus Firework Incident
Police arrested a 12-year-old Great Yarmouth boy this morning on suspicion of arson, causing a public nuisance, and breaching the Fireworks and Explosives Acts. He was questioned at the Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre.
Passengers Escape Injury, But Chaos Onboard
Several passengers were on the bus at the time. Thankfully, no one was hurt. A young mum on the bus with her two-year-old described the terrifying moment:
“Schoolkids will be schoolkids, and they were making quite a deal of noise and were being a bit loud. However, when the bus drew away from the hospital, screams came from upstairs. Then there was a huge blast all of a sudden. Everyone ran down the stairs, and the entire bus filled with smoke.”
Operator Condemns ‘Careless Behaviour’
Chris Speed, operations director for First Eastern Counties, commented on the dangerous stunt:
“Yesterday afternoon we encountered a significant incident when a firework was lighted by schoolchildren on a bus in Gorleston. Fortunately, no injuries were inflicted on any of our passengers or the driver on board, but this careless behaviour is quite alarming.”
“We are collaborating with the authorities to identify and apprehend anyone implicated.”
Park Ormiston Academy, the school linked to the pupils involved, has been contacted for comment.
