Teen Gang Member Convicted for Rush Hour Station Murder
A violent 17-year-old gang member has been found guilty of stabbing a 16-year-old boy to death during rush hour at a busy London station. The verdict came today at the Old Bailey following a two-week trial.
Knife Attack Caught on CCTV at Croydon Station
On 27 January, Louis Johnson was travelling through East Croydon station just before 4.30pm with a friend. The teenager was suddenly confronted by the accused on the overbridge, who pulled out a large “zombie” knife hidden in his trousers.
Louis was stabbed once through the chest. Despite paramedics’ desperate efforts, he died instantly at the scene.
Terrifying CCTV footage shows the culprit fleeing the station, still clutching the weapon, after forcing his way through the barriers.
Fugitive Caught After Shaving His Hair
The killer went on the run but handed himself into police two days later in Chichester. He had shaved off his long hair in an attempt to change his appearance.
Three days after the stabbing, a knife matching the murder weapon’s description was found at a chicken shop in Tooting.
Police Praise Witnesses and Await Sentencing
British Transport Police Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: “It’s frankly unthinkable that anyone would commit such a brazen act of violence in broad daylight at a busy station full of commuters and school children.”
“Louis was only sixteen with his whole life ahead, leaving a heartbroken family still trying to come to terms with their loss.”
“I would like to thank the brave witnesses who helped save Louis and later showed courage by giving evidence at court.”
“While no sentence will ever bring true justice, I hope they find some comfort knowing the convicted individual faces many years behind bars.”
The 17-year-old killer will be sentenced on 16 October.
