Stuart Williamson Dies at HMP Norwich
Stuart Williamson, from Barford Road, Colton, was found dead in his HMP Norwich prison cell on the evening of Wednesday, 29 December 2021. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene around 5pm.
Awaiting Trial for Murder Charge
Williamson was on remand, awaiting trial after being charged with the murder of Diane Douglas. Detectives launched a major investigation in October 2021 after Diane’s relatives reported her missing.
Body Found After Arrest
Williamson was arrested in Wales on 30 October 2021 and taken to Norfolk for questioning. He was charged with Diane’s murder, believed to have happened between December 1 and 31, 2018. At the time, Diane was 55 or 56 years old.
Following a search at Williamson’s home, Diane’s body was recovered on 3 November 2021. A Home Office post-mortem gave the cause of death as unascertained due to decomposition, with further tests ongoing.
Next Steps in Court
A hearing will take place at Norwich Crown Court in due course. A file is being prepared for the Coroner as investigations continue.
