Brazen Burglar Busted After Smashing Restaurant Window
In the early hours of Tuesday, 28 November 2023, Mark Taylor went on a wild rampage along the High Street. He targeted a closed restaurant, repeatedly kicking and throwing objects at the front window. After several tries, he finally made a hole big enough to crawl through.
£60 Theft and £400 Damage
Once inside, Taylor headed straight to the bar and made off with two bottles worth £60. He escaped the same way he entered – through the smashed window. CCTV footage quickly helped police track him down, and just two days later, Taylor, 51, homeless, was arrested.
Jailed for 14 Months—Caught Red-Handed
Taylor was charged with burglary and pleaded guilty at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on 1 December. The judge handed him a 14-month jail sentence, which included penalties for breaching two suspended sentences.
“Taylor is a prolific criminal who thought nothing of burgling a local restaurant while on two suspended sentences,” said PC Peter Hambleton of the Medway Victim Based Crime Team. “The cost of repairing the window was over £400—an expense the owners should never have faced. This brazen act could only end one way. Thanks to neighbourhood officers, Taylor was swiftly caught and won’t threaten law-abiding businesses for months to come.”
