Bungling Burglar Caught on CCTV After Clacton Break-In
A would-be thief’s clumsy raid on a Clacton home ended in disaster – and a quick jail sentence after CCTV caught him red-handed. The victim came back to his Orwell Road flat on September 7 to find £600 cash, £100 in loose change, video games, and tools had vanished.
Ladder, Drainpipe and a Yellow Bag: CCTV Tells the Tale
Footage showed 28-year-old Liam Dixon trying to climb a drainpipe – which snapped under him. Undeterred, he returned with a ladder, smashed a window, then made off with the loot stuffed in a yellow bag. Essex Police released images of the suspect online.
Community Steps Up to Nab the Nuisance
Thanks to tips from local residents who recognised him, Dixon was swiftly arrested. At Chelmsford Crown Court on December 2, he pleaded guilty to burglary and got 28 months inside. Detective Constable Richard English praised the locals:
“This is a classic case of the public supporting to help catch a bad guy.
Dixon had no thought for anyone but himself when he stole money saved for a holiday.
He wasn’t very bright to be caught on camera and identified so quickly.”
