Husband Slays Wife Over £300k Debt – Caught Out by £450k Life Insurance

Robert “James” Hammond brutally murdered his wife Sian Hammond at their Primes Corner home in Histon, near Cambridge, on October 29 last year.

Debts Spiral Out of Control

The 47-year-old was drowning in debts exceeding £300,000. He spent months spinning lies and making excuses to dodge payments owed to HMRC and a financial company.

After Sian’s death, Hammond boasted he could clear the crushing debts with a £450,000 life insurance payout.

Busted by Jury – Found Guilty

Hammond rang the police at 2am the next day, claiming he’d found his 46-year-old wife unresponsive. He kept denying any involvement.

But on July 17, a jury at Cambridge Crown Court saw through his deceit and found him unanimously guilty of murder.

He faces sentencing on July 23.
