Nottingham Man Jailed After Police Raid Finds 50+ Cannabis Plants in Terraced House
Officers Storm Nottingham Property
Police struck at a terraced house in Tilbury Rise, Cinderhill, Nottingham, uncovering a huge cannabis grow operation. Officers found more than 50 plants spread across three upstairs bedrooms when they executed a warrant on the morning of 1 August 2023.
Inside, Ronald Kumria, 25, was found lounging on a sofa downstairs as the City West Neighbourhood Policing Team moved in.
Kumria Claims He Was ‘Looked After’… Under Threat
During questioning, Kumria said he had only been living there a few days to care for the cannabis plants in exchange for cash. He claimed he was threatened with violence if he tried to leave – a tactic often used by organised crime gangs to trap vulnerable people.
Dangerous Set-Up Exposed
- Each bedroom had been rigged with fluorescent bulbs and specialised equipment to grow the plants.
- Police discovered highly dangerous wiring installed to bypass the electricity supply, putting the neighbourhood at risk.
Tough Sentence for Kumria
Kumria, who has no fixed address, was jailed for one year and eight months at Nottingham Crown Court on 2 November after pleading guilty to producing a Class B drug.
Sergeant Darran Owen said: “The production and supply of illegal drugs is a very serious offence, so I’m pleased Kumria has been put behind bars.”
“He claimed he was threatened with violence if he left, which is sadly common in these types of criminal operations.”
“These grows are linked to organised crime gangs who exploit people and endanger communities.”
“We’ll keep conducting raids like this to disrupt drug operations and tackle the criminals behind them.”
